It was a
night I read a news that a group of 4 female tourists had topless sunbath at one of Port Dickson's beach which viewed as an offended behavior in
the country. I shared it to my mom and we had a conversation:
Mom: Why
must topless?
Me: It’s
common for them. Maybe they don’t know it’s offensive here.
Mom: No one
was topless there except them!
Me: Well,
not all will go topless. Like the beaches in other countries where a lot of
tourists visit, some topless some not. So maybe that’s what they thought as
well.
Mom: They
should have noticed no one does that there!
Well,
Malaysia is a conservative country.
I didn’t
continue the conversation because it will be endless with the same says. But I
murmured in my mind that “If no one start a thing, who will?”
I don’t
mean that everyone should start topless sunbath. It's the attitude of 'do nothing everyone else don't'. Most of the people do not have
the courage to do ‘the different’ because no one does that and thus, ‘the
different’ will not happen if no one starts.
My view of
it is, it can be an observation of surroundings; it can be an opportunity as
well.
First of
all, why no one start?
Fear – the
top stepping stone of moving forward. Fear of failure, fear of embarrassment,
fear of the unknown, fear of disappointment, fear of judgment, fear of
rejection.
No
encouragement – everyone tells you not to do it and the reason they can give
cause your initial courage demolished.
Laziness/Unwillingness - well, the words explain it all.
Laziness/Unwillingness - well, the words explain it all.
Fear is
unreal, encouragement comes from within, laziness is... sigh. Things will not change until someone
starts it. If no one invented the wheel we still walk to destination; if
no one invented compass we do not know the exact direction; if no one invented internet you
won’t be here. We will still live in stone era if no one invent and innovate.
Here are a few life examples of ‘a start’:
Walt Disney – oh the wonderful, magical Walt Disney which created
cartoons, film studios, Disney land, Mickey Mouse, cartoon princes and
princesses. I love Disney!
Bill Gates -co-founder and chairman of Microsoft. With
his partners he went through loses for few years but they didn’t give up, they
learned from the mistakes and continue until Microsoft empire created.
Abraham Lincoln – slavery might still be legal if Abraham
Lincoln did not fight for it. He was brave to fight for human liberty which
back then was not accepted by ‘high level citizen’.
Hey, do you
know why they are so famous? Because no one did that and they started it and with
courage and determination they are now (was for Abraham Lincoln) the
pioneer/leader.
They
started something new, failed few times and got back again until succeeded.
Dare to dream and fear will be weaken; encourage yourself if no one does. If
you don’t start you wouldn’t know what awaits you. If you don’t give up, you’ll
be an inventor or innovator.
“Things do not change, we change!”
by Henry David Thoreau
Simplest yet, if a group hangout is drowning in a complete silent, you sparks in some fun by saying "Hey! Let's go bbq tonight!"or "Let's go to the beach!", then, "when, where, who else joining" will kill the silence.
Be initiative and confident! If you have
a dream, make it real. If you have an idea, start to work it out! If there’s an opportunity,
don’t let it go. If no one moves, take the initiative.
“There is no scarcity of opportunity to make a living at what you love; there’s only scarcity of resolve to make it happen.”
By Wayne Dyer
Are you a follower or an initiator?
Notey: The idea
here is to encourage the motivation of good. Illegal, harmful ideas.. OH NO NO PLEASE..
